The adverse drug reaction database is used to monitor a possible causal relationship between the drug and the event. A strong association forms the basis for further epidemiological study and consequently for regulatory actions. The development of methodologies detecting such associations helps clinical reviewers to sort through millions of potential drug-event combinations, and to prioritize reviews to undertake. Here we apply several detection methodologies to the adverse drug reaction database available from Adverse Event Reporting System by FDA.
